On
16th March, 2020, Ms. Gurpreet Singh, Chief Officer of Daman Municipal Council
talked about Property Tax announced for 2020-2021 in an interview on camera,
which is give here for ready reference:
In
the interview she stated that religious places are exempted from taxes as
per request by Councilors.
But
the Property Tax list which was published on the website of the Council tells different
story.

When
above figures came to light regarding religious places, I studied regulation
and it gives exemption from Property Tax for religious places even then DMC has imposed tax on them. And Ms. Gurpreet Singh gave credit to the
Councilors for duty they failed to perform.
When
this property assessment list was brought before the Council, all Councilors
failed to raise their voice against discrimination to religious places and for
failure of Council to fulfill its own regulation and they kept silent on such illegal
action of the Council.
The
Chief Officer said in an interview that religious places are exempted from taxes,
did she had not gone through the assessment list before she put it before the
Council and even before making it public?
